Your Service and Experience Matter

Ferris State University offers credit for more than 1,500 military courses and occupations. The current military equivalencies are listed as part of the Ferris Transfer Credit Equivalencies Database. Military course information is taken either from Joint Services Transcripts or Community College of the Air Force Transcripts

Check Your Equivalencies

Note: JST credit equivalencies are listed as ACE Army or ACE Sailor/Marine.

Tips for Searching for Equivalencies

  •  Joint Services Transcript (Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard)

The Transfer Credit Equivalencies Database has two lists of institutions. Look at the second list titled “Choose an Out of State/International Institution." Find and select the appropriate branch of service, either ACE Army or ACE Sailor/Marine. Then press the submit button below the list.

Once you have done this you will be on the institution page. Here you will see a long drop-down list of military courses and occupations listed by JST ID. All items are listed with no dashes, so AR-0703-0014 is AR07030014. To avoid scrolling through all the options, use your browser’s find option (usually at the found at the top of your screen or window in the “edit” menu). Occasionally, there will be extra characters at the end of the JST ID, so it is best to only search with the first six characters and then pick the appropriate course or occupation to see course equivalencies granted.

If the course or occupations that you are searching for is not in the database, this means that an equivalency has not been established. If this is the case, a review can be undertaken to see what credit, if any, are appropriate for the course.

  •  Community College of the Air Force Transcript

The Transfer Credit Equivalencies Database has two lists of institutions. Look at the second list titled “Choose an Out of State/International Institution” and find “Community Coll-Air Force”. To avoid scrolling through all the options, use your browser’s find option (usually at the found at the top of your screen or window in the “edit” menu). Once you have selected Community Coll-Air Force click the submit button below the list.

This will take you to a list where you will select and submit the subject code for the course you are searching. Upon submitting, you will be taken to the subject equivalency list. When consulting the list, be sure to look for the course number of the course on your transcript. If the course or occupations that you are searching for is not in the database, this means that an equivalency has not been established. If this is the case, a review can be undertaken to see what credit, if any, are appropriate for the course.

Assessment of Prior Learning

Not all of your learning from experience fits onto a JST or Community College of the Air Force transcript. Ferris offers a robust online Assessment of Prior Learning to help transform your experiences into credits, meaning less time to degree and less student debt. Visit our Prior Learning page for more information on credit opportunities through prior learning.
